Conservation Projects

The Epinup Mangrove Conservation Project is a community-led effort in coordination with Seacology, Xavier High School, the Department of Marine Resources, and the College of Micronesia-FSM, Chuuk campus. Seacology has awarded the Epinup Mangrove Conservation Project a grant in the amount of US $33,000, thanks to the generous support of Nu Skin Enterprises’ Force For Good Foundation and the Moore Foundation. A 10% administrative fee in the total of US $3,000 has been given to Xavier High School for administering the grant.

This grant from Seacology has been split in two. One half (US $15,000) will be used to construct a community water system and the other half (US $15,000) will be used for the establishment of the Epinup Mangrove Forest Reserve and Marine Protected Area. Upon completion of the community water system, the activities regarding the mangrove conservation area will take place. Such activities will include hiring and training of 4 conservation officers with the help of the Department of Marine Resources, the establishment of a Conservation Club at the Epinup Annex School, and various environmental awareness programs.
